I think I have tryed everything besides pulling up the carpet(not possiable) and my husband says if it doesn't stop I have to get ride of them please help. They are my life and are very good cats other than this one huge problem. O ya they only potty in 3 locations it's not like they are going every were.

Answer
Hi Kristen,

Yes, this is certainly a problem but can be fixed.  You will basically have to re-train your cats.  First, the urine odor must be removed in order for the cats not to keep re-using the same spot.  Either buy a product specifically made for this ,  at a pet store or co-op,  or take a mixture of carpet shampoo, vinegar and water and clean it thoroughly! If at all possible, lift the carpet where they are urinating,  cut out the padding.... and either clean pad really good with the same solution or even better, buy some padding and replace the stained areas.  The goal is to get rid of the odors so your cats will not continue to be led there.  Keep in mind.... even if you cannot smell the urine, your cat can!  Thats why it's important to use one of the examples I stated earlier.

Now... once you get that up and it's dry.......put aluminum foil over the areas.  For some reason, cats do NOT like it, and will not step on it.  This will keep them from using the same spot over and over.    Next step.... put your cats in either a bathroom or a bedroom with a clean litter box  (keep it very clean) and do not let them have the run of the house unless you are supervising them. If they try to urinate anywhere .... do not hit them or yell them as cats do not respond well to that.  Just simply pick them up and take them to their litter box.   If you work out of the home, this will be easier as you won't have to listen to them crying at the door!  LOL   Although, at night , you may have a problem!!

It is not easy to re-train a cat, but can be done.   I have a friend who did exactly what I have told you and it worked for him.  His cat is now doing great and has not had a relapse.   I hope this works for you too. Good luck!

God Bless too,
Becky
