My cat is a licker

I have an adorable black cat, male, about 6 months old.  When he starts purring, he wants to lick me, constantly.  And, his breath is not that great, and it hurts!.  He is so sweet, and I try to discourage him from licking so much, without ruining the moment for him.  I have had many cats, and I've never had a licker.  Is this okay or does it mean he may have a problem?

He's ok, he's just extra affectionate.  Let him lick for a couple times or so, then just start scratching him under the chin or face so he can't do it anymore.  Just avoid his little rough tongue.  He may outgrow some of that when he grows up a bit.  I hope you got him neutered, that will keep him sweet and his bathroom habits good for years.  Write again if I can help.  Hugs, Barb
