Siamese Kitten troubles

Question
Hello,
I'm a new owner of an 8 week Siamese kitten seal point male.  I also have a 2 year old female Bengal.  They seem to be working out their differences in a playful way, however my question is when I go to pick-up my kitten, he just cries and wants to get down.  Does this mean he isn't wanting to bond with me?  This is happening everytime I pick him up.  I've read nothing but wonderful things about the siamese cats, but I'm wondering if this is just a phase he is going through.

Sincerely,
Michelle

Answer
Hi Michelle.  It probably is a phase.  An 8-week-old kitten is usually more interested in conquering the world than in cuddling.  See if you can bond with him through play right now with interactive toys like feather or ribbon wands.  After he's tuckered out, he may be more open to being held for a little bit.  Siamese also bond through conversation, too, so spend lots of time talking directly to him.

Most Siamese are lap cats as adults.  The operative word there is most.  As I type, my red point is on my lap, who is always on my lap the instant I sit down.  There is my blue point trying to squeeze on top.  Then there is his brother across the room, who has never a day in his life been held by his own will.  The two were raised exactly the same, they just have different natures.

I always say a great way to bond with a cat is to hand feed them extra special treats.  In my experience, boiled chicken breast works best.  I would limit this to about 5 bite size pieces a couple times a day so it doesn't interfere with his regular meals.
