Question
QUESTION: Hey there i have a one year old male cat and i also have a 5 month old himaylan kitten. They don't get along that well.. my older cat pats at the younger one and pins him down and bites him and hurts the younger cat. the youger yes sometime pats and chases after the older one but never hurts the older ome of course because the older one is bigger then the younger kitty. they r both males and they both r not 'done' do u have any idea how i can get my older cat to stop picking on my younger cat. i hope to hear u soon

ANSWER: Michelle,

Neuter them both and they will get along much better.  The older male is trying to breed the younger male!!!!! Neither cat is really hurting the other.  Cats do tend to play with each other very roughly and can make much noise when they do so. However, cats have very, very tough skin, so one is getting hurt!!!!!

As the Himalayan gets older, there is a possibility that, if they remain whole, they will no longer get along, so neutering both as soon as possible would be the wise thing to do.

QUESTION: Even tho that the older cat has made the younger one bleed. But other then that i agree with u someone told me by neutering the older cat would clam  him down.. but what if i only get the older one done and not the younger one?

ANSWER: Michelle,

Good point!  When cats do breed, it is not unusual for the female to get scabs on the back of her neck from the male grasping her neck with his teeth and the female struggling.

On the other hand, if you neuter the older male, but not the younger male, you may have the reverse problem that, when the Himalayan gets older he may attempt to breed the older cat once it is neutered.

I think you will find that neutering both is going to be the best solution all around! You can also avoid some of the nastier behaviors whole cats may engage in (like caterwauling, spraying, trying to breed everything in sight).

QUESTION: Norm i just have one more question. What about sucking on blackets is this normal. i am here now and my older cat is sucking the blanket and i has to rub him when i stop rubbing him he starts whinning. come to think of it he wenns all the time. every moring we get up he wens when we come home he wens. i dunno y he has food there and water i don't understand why he wens all the time. as well my himalayan kitten don't wen at all sometimes when we r in the kitten and he smells the food he looks up and opens his mouth and a lil tiny wen comes out and its soo funny is that normal. the only time we actually hears him wen or meow is when the older cat hurts him Thanks norm

Answer
Michelle,

The sucking blanket thing is probably a combination of raging hormones and being taken away from mama too young.

As to the vocalizations, some cats are just vocal.  The best thing to do is to ignore it. He may be responding to hearing females in season (even if you do not hear them). When he is neutered this behavior may lessen.

Himalayans often have tiny meows, so nothing out of the ordinary here!
