Question
How do you keep cats off countertops and the dining table? I have two cats, 14 month old female siblings, spayed, and I have tried putting empty plastic soda bottles and cans on the table to scare the cats when they bumped them over. They learn how to maneuver around them. I have also tried putting mouse traps in these places ( The cats do not get caught in these traps, but they can bump them and set them off.) But again, they learn to get around this stuff. I've even tried squirting them with water, but usually by that time the cats have heard me coming and have run for cover. They know they're not suppose to be on the table or countertops or they wouldn't run. They don't run when they are not in a forbidden place. Help! My husband says the cats will have to go if they don't stay out of these places.

Answer
The water trick is an old psychology trick. You will have to train your cat using certain psychology. It takes time. Mouse traps I do not recommend. Ask in the psychology area{a psychologist} on this site if they know any good tricks for your cats. They may be able to give you advice on this. Good luck and sorry I couldn't help more
