Question
I  would like to know if you can help me figure this one out. I have had cats all my life an I never seen anything like this. We moved into this house three years ago, it's new we had it built. We had 2 cats and now we are down to one. About a year ago my cat missy had to be put to sleep. She had gotten sick some how, first it started out when she went to the bathroom, she would come back an just kept cleaning her butt, you could see that it was getting rawl.with in a day she lost her appetite, she wouldn't eat or drink, she would drink a little not much. She started loosing weight really fast especially around the hip area, it look like it was caved in on both sides. Then about 2 more days we notice red bloody like sores around her nipple areas, and a few on her back. We took her to the vet,an she said it was a Urinary infection. She gave her amoxcillin and she was not getting any better, she was getting worse, her eyes where getting infected, she could hardly open them, it was just a terrible site. We took her back they done blood work an put her on steroids. After a couple of days she still was not better. Went back again then they put her on clavamox, they kept her over night on a I.V.Because she was dehydrated really bad, she never did get better an the vet said she had know idea what was a wrong with her an we had to put her asleep. Now this cat is doing the same thing. she has lost her very good appetite in one night an just lays around upstairs away from everybody looking real sick an weak. I followed her to the bath room an she is just grunting really hard but nothing is coming out just gas. please help me I done want to see this one die like my last one. I have never in all my 49 years seen anything like this. please e-mail back soon as possible. thank you Steve .= reid0923@aol.com

Answer
Steven, How awful for you to move but to lose one of your precious babies, I'm so sorry to hear that.

Please check your cats eyes and mouth - look to see if she is turning yellow as in jaundice.  This is CRITICAL for a cat.  Less bad for dogs and a LONG time to help a human, but no time or very little to help cats :-(  Been there, had to do it also and it takes them VERY quickly.  Kitten food has a lot of moisture in it, so get some of this and see if you can coach her to eat some.  Has more vitiams and water to help with the dehydration.  But....

If she looks even a tiny bit yellow, get her into the Vet ASAP!  There's a small chance they can still help her, but the longer it goes on - any infection really, the quicker it can take her away.  How old is your surviving one?

You should totally disinfect her littler box since it sounds like a beginning area?  I'd toss all the old litter and scrub the heck out of her box.  Put in a non-clumping litter in case this is irrating her bottom area.  But a trip to the Vet right now sounds like what she needs the most!

Please let me know what you've found out and what's happening ok?
