kittens taken away from mom before 12wks

Question
I live in a condo unit in CT and the complex has ferral cats and kittens. Today 5/16/07 2 kittens under and I mean under 8wks were taken away from their mom. The mom trusted my family enough to show them to us. My neighbors have now taken them from the mom. One neighbor states that they were old enough to take. I say they are not, and worry about the kittens well being. The kitten's mom is walking around in circles and crying for her kittens. Please advise what to do.

Answer
If the kittens are not available to give them back to her, there is not much that you can do. Time and perhaps a little affection will cure her crying and her searching. Even if they are taken later, she would still go through a form of loss activity for a short time.
If the kittens are old enough to eat solid food and are eating well, they will do ok.
It always preferable to have babies stay with their mom until they are older. Personally, I keep mine until they
are at least 14 weeks old. This is to insure good emotional health and sweetness as well as physical health.
If your neighbor needs assistance in knowing how to care for the babies, she can ask me or her vet for the information.
Do not worry too much. Thanks for your kind concern.
Check with the ASPCA and the local rescue agencies in your area.
