pregnant cat in heat!

Question
My cat is due in a week or a week and a half and yesturday she began to show signs of being in heat (chirping, getting in front of the male with her butt up and tail moved) he has been mounting her every time she does this, I am concerned about the kitten's she is carrying now.  Is this a normal behavior?  I know the kittens are alive because they are moving.  Will her going back in heat effect the kittens almost due?

Answer
KayCee,

I would immediately have her to the vet and have her ultrasounded to make sure that this is not a false pregnancy.  It is very possible she was carrying and has re-absorbed her kittens.  Also, with a week to go there should be signs that her milk is dropping.

Either way, my guess is that she has gained weight from eating for her kittens that she may have re-absorbed and so looks quite chunky, but is probably not pregnant.

It is not normal for pregnant cats to come back into season.  It is usuallyn a sign that, if she was pregnant, she no longer is.

If there are truly kittens there, her going into heat and should not affect the kittens.

In any case, I would double check with your vet.

Best regards... Norm.
