Cat urination on particular object

Question
I found a cat in the parking lot of my apartment a few months ago. The vet says he's about a year or so old and I just had him neutered because he was spraying. He hasnt sprayed anything since then until I was on my couch with my comforter. I cannot open my bedroom now because he will urinate on that comforter. Is there any reason why he does that? Can I stop it?

Answer
Cats are meticulous. They will always go back to the same place to urinate/defecate, usually the litterbox. Your cat has made your comforter one of his litterboxes in his mind. He used it once and as long as it has any odor to it - an odor you and I WILL NEVER detect though they can smell it - he will go back. If the comforter isn't too imporatnt I would get rid of it - or at least temporarily remove it from anywhere the cat goes to see if this helps. You may have washed the comforter several times but urine is an odor that we may no longer smell but the animals can still detect it after much cleaning. You can bleach it in teh laundry if that is possible. Point is that it may have started as an accident but now, as long as kitty detects anything on the comforter, he thinks he's doing a good job by going back there to pee. Pack up this comforter where he can never get at it and see what happens. Let me know.
