Is wild salmon treat ok?

16:36:10

Question
Hi,

Our male cat had urinary blockage and was put on a special diet. For treats he was allowed something called "Greenies."

A friend suggested we try freeze-dried wild salmon treats (because cats love them; he didn't know about the health aspect).

Our cat is crazy about the wild salmon treats, but we don't know whether they're bad for him.

What do you think?

Many thanks,

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve,
Urinary tract issues are rather common in male cats.  I have no vet training, nor can I offer medical advice.  What I can offer is opinion based on experience. It seems that these urinary problems are related more to diet.  Fish in general, offer valuable nutrients when given in moderation. I have a grooming shop with a partner whose specialty is addressing common problems with natural solutions, i.e. herbs, enzymes and such.  He has extensive knowledge of the natural and healthy approach to prevention as well as management of those common problems with cats as well as dogs.  If you would like to contact him to discuss possible diet related issues, his email address is groomingdalesofaustin@gmail.com .  If you decide to contact him, let him know that you were referred from this site.
He can also let you know the benefits or hazards of Greenies.  (My own cats like greenies shavings!)
Hope this is helpful,
Thank you,
Tomay
