Question
i have a 10 year old cat she is no longer using the litter box plus she keeps peeing all over my things bed, floor, laundery, ect. why is this this has been doing this for the last year and i have taken her to the vet but with no relife. i am a point to were if the problem does not get resolved i will have no choice to get rid of her.

Answer
Lisa,

I am assuming she is spayed.  If not, that is the first order of busienss.

Normally, in a 10 year old spayed cat, this means the onset of a physical problem like a urinary tract disease or the like.

On the other hand, if your vet has checked out the cat and there appears to be no physical problem, then the problem is behavioral.  You may have to do some detective work to discover why the cat is suddenly doing this.

Things that usually upset a cat's toilet habits are a new addition to the household, be it human or another pet.  Another cat coming around and peeing near your house.  A change in the cat litter.  Just to name a few. I would suggest you read the article pointed to by the link.  It is written by a vet who is also a cat breeder and covers many things:

Anywhere she has peed inappropriately needs to be cleaned up with an enzyme based cleaner specifically for pet stains and pet odors (available at pet supermarkets or farm stores).

If her peeing is confined to a small area, you can try a Feliway diffuser in the room or rooms where she is peeing inappropriately.  Sometimes these are successful at overcoming the bad habit.

I would try to go back and see if I can find out the root cause for the behavior and see if you can turn it around.

Good luck and best regards.. Norm.
