Kitty constantly leaving stains.

Question
Hello Amanda.

My husband and I have two Russian cats, one male and one female (currently they are 6 months old). We adopted the male at 10 weeks, and got the female at 12 weeks, (they are littermates). Both are spayed and neutered.

Both my cats use the litter box well,  and they never go on the carpet or floor. The one issue is my male kitty, Felix, constantly has a dirty anus with fecal remains. Everywhere he sits, he leaves a poop residue behind. His sister, Radka, does not have this problem, as I check her bottom often and it is always clean.   When we first got Felix, he came down with Giardia and we thought that was causing his leakage, but after treatment, he still has a dirty butt.

This is becoming a serious problem because he leave stains everywhere, and its hard to deal with in our small apartment (they are indoor cats only).  I am frequently wiping his behind with soft tissues and vet kitty wipes.

I have even asked my vet about it, and she said that it  is hygiene issue, and that some cats are simply cleaner than others.

Is this normal for Felix?  I really don't understand as Radka does not have this problem, not even a little bit.  This is our first set of cats, so we really don't have any others to compare this to.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
I'm inclined to agree with your vet.  It sounds like Felix is a typical little boy and is more interested in playing than giving himself a bath.  If your vet doesn't feel there is anything medically wrong, then the only thing I can suggest is to clean his rear end for him after he goes to the bathroom.  Baby wipes should do the trick.
