cat eye discharge?

14:24:17

Question
Hello, I was wondering if you could help me with my cat? She has sort of slime, gue coming out of her right eye, and I'm not to sure what this means, or what it is. She has been blind in this eye since we got her from a rescue centre when she was a kitten, she is now almost 16. Could this be due to old age? she also had cat flu when we first got her, she was treated for it straight away and has been healthy ever since. This is the first problem she has had since cat flu. Is this a serious matter? she is still eating.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Bex,

Most of the time, eye discharge indicates an eye infection. And in most cases, an antibiotic eye ointment or drop will cure it. Sometimes mucus can mean an injury has occurred. In these cases, too, antibiotic ointments are given to protect the eye and encourage healing. You should have your kitty looked at by a vet to discover the reason for her eye discharge and the appropriate treatment.

Best of luck!
