cat licking his tail

Question
Hi. I have a 15 year old siamese who is very healthy. My question is regarding her licking. She licks herself so much that she is losing fur on his tail. I did notice the tail twiching constantly as if he has no control of it. Thus he "attacks" the tail and licks it constantly.
Thanks

Answer
My apologies that I didn't answer your question sooner.  If you haven't checked him recently for fleas, I would do that as they tend to hang out around the base of the tail, and her attacking her twitching tail can be a sign that they are biting her and irritating her.  Barbering (over grooming) can also be a result of psychological problems as well, but most often it is related to a physical issue, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to take her to your vet for a physical.
