my cat is about to turn 1 year in February an used to weigh round about 3kg. he used to be heavy and fat not over weight but has been losing weight and becoming more bony.ive been feeding them hills science diet for kittens as he is not a year old yet.he has been to the vet for his injections and ive given him a deworming tablet.he has no runny stomach or any behavioural changes. please could you advise on how i could get him to gain weight. thank you!

Answer
Hello Mishkaat!
I wonder if you might supplement his diet with canned cat food.  It may put some weight on him, however if he continues to lose weight and still look bony, I would take him back to the Vet for more testing.  Something may be going on that is keeping him from gaining weight.  One thing to consider, is that although he was dewormed, are you sure he was dewormed for all types of parasites?  There are several different kinds, and if he is infested with one type of worm, but was dewormed for something completley different, then he still needs to be dewormed. Tapeworms are hard to get rid of, and they will cause a cat to look thin.  The best way is to take a small fecal sample to your Vet and let him/her look under the microscope. This way they can determine if he has worms and exactly what kind.   I hope this helps.

Here is something that is for all animal lovers.

The Pet's 10 Commandments
( From a pet's standpoint)

1. My Life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you get me.
2.  Give me time to understand what you want from me.
3.  Place your trust in me. It is crucial to my well being.
4.  Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up for punishment. You have your work, enertainment   and friends, I only have you.
5.  Talk to me sometimes. Even If I don't understand your words, I understand your voice.
6.  Be aware of how ever you treat me I will never forget it.
7.  Please don't hit me. I can't hit back but I can bite and scratch and I really don't want to do that.
8.  Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right foods or I have been out in the sun too long or my heart is getting old and weak.
9.  Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys...Never say "I can't bear to watch" or " Let it happen in my absence."
Everything is easier for me if you are there.
     Remember I Love You.

God Bless,
