cats not eating/meowing

Question
I hope you can help, I have found some answers relating to my cart not eating however she has also stopped meowing, she is normally a loud mouth, when I come home when I'm leaving, she's always meowing. I haven't heard a peep out of her in 2 days. I'm going to take her into the vets as soon as I can but I just need peace of mind as to what could be causing this. I scarred for her she was a stray about 7 months when I took her in about 3 weeks after I found her at home suffering from a miscarriage, I rushed her to the vets, she was on antibiotics for a bit and has been happier then ever up until now.....

Answer
Hi Josee and thank you for asking on AllExperts!

How old is your cat now?  Has anything else changed in your home - new cat? Husband/boyfriend gone more often? New job, etc...?

You know when you move a CHAIR in your house, the cats freak and think it's something NEW for a while :-)  so if anything in your home changed, it could be as simple as this.

Side note - my husband took 3 of our 4 rescues for a few weeks while I had to go to Texas.  When I returned of course there were the initial sniffing, hissing and renewing of friendships, but... One cat we have seemed very depressed, didn't eat much and seemed to sleep ALOT!

When her "dad" came home, she perked right back up and I realized - OMG she bonded with HIM while I was gone (ouch)!  But even something simple like that can have ramifications for a cat.

I'm glad you've got a Vet appointment to make sure it isn't her teeth (could be a cleaning needed), or her throat bothing her!  In the meantime, you can try giving your cat some humane baby food (the chicken in juice ONLY, or Turkey in juice) not mixed with other baby food, especially onions - mix this with a tiny bit of her dry food and see if she will eat more of this ok?
It is high in moisture content and many cats LOVE this (and much less worries about canned treaties with bad wheat gluten ;-).

Please let me know what your Vet says ok and the best of luck.
