cat just had kittens....

hey there. i am a little concerned about my cat. she is about 2 1/2 years old. i think first litter, we found her at the humane society and they said she was perviously spaid, well. that wasn't the truth, she had 5 healthy kittens and well my question is that
when shes feeding them, this is abut a day later after birthing all of them, she acts like shes going into labor at sometimes, meowing and then panting, with tongue hanging out like a dog. it scares me a little because i don't know what is going on.  shes eating allot so that's not the problem, but she wont drink, I've put water by her mouth, but nothing. so is she just dehydrated, or do i need to take her to the vet?

It is not unusual for a new mama to be off her feed and/or water for a day or two.  

Without seeing the cat, it is hard to surmise what is going on.  It is also possible she is not finished.  I have seen mamas wait up to 24 hours to finish delivering kittens. I would take her to your vet to make sure she is finished and nothing was left behind in the uterus after the birthing process. Cats do not normally drink a lot of water if they are on wet food, so not drinking the water may not be a problem.

Please let me know what your vet says.
