Cat that is feeding babies

We inherited a stray cat while she was pregnant she has now had her babies and is feeding them.  Can we get her fixed before she is through feeding?  Also how soon can we get the babies fixed?

Hi, Thank you for the question. It is so nice to have a question from someone who really wants to be responsible and do the best for their pet !
It is best to let the kittens get to 8 weeks old before spaying the mom cat. She will still be nursing them at that time but it won't be too much plus, there is the risk that she will get pregnant again so better to have her spayed then to take that risk ! Is it possible to keep her inside until that point? She can come in heat as soon as the kittens are born, especially this time of year so please keep a close eye on her ! The kittens can be spayed and neutered as early as 3.5 months old. This is called an early spay and neuter program and you will need to find a vet that is practicing it. Some vets still like to wait until the cats are 5.5 months to do the surgeries especially for the girls.
