Leukemia Positive Cat with Respiratory Infection

16:15:25

Question
My cat is feline leukemia positive and has an upper respiratory infection.  He is a very strong cat with quite a zest for life but this infection seems to be getting the better of him.  I took him to his vet for six days for fluids, antibiotics and force feeding.  He gets extremely stressed when going to the vet so I decided to see if he could kick the infection on his own.  It has been 1.5 days since he has had fluids or food.  He doesn't seem to be sneezing or have as much discharge from his eye and nose as he has had in the past week, but he is definitely losing weight and not moving around much.  I don't know if I should  have him put to sleep or give it a little more time.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Rhonda,

I'm so sorry to hear that your little one has leukemia.  That's so unbelievably sad, and rest assured that you're in my thoughts (the kitties are sending you good kitty vibes too!)

As far as ending his suffering, that's a decision that I'm afraid only you can make.  If you want to, try a little baby food WITHOUT ONION POWDER IN IT!!! and heat that up a little so your little one will be enticed to the smells coming from the warmed up baby food.  Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.  If you DO decide that it is time to end your little one's suffering, then be sure to give him extra cuddles, take lots of pictures of him before the trip, and make sure you wrap him in a favorite blanket.  Talk to him through the process; he knows he is a loved and cherished cat.

Good luck!
