Question
I have an indoor cat that ran away from home Tuesday morning and returned early wensday morning. When we got her from the ASPCA in july she was given all her shots. I just want to know if there is anythig that I should do to make sure that she does not bring any germs into the house, because only god knows what she was up to for the entire day.

Answer
hi Shayne, well my first concern would be that she was pregnant! has she been spayed? then the second concern is worms.. so you will want to worm her again. You will also want to check her for fleas, and I would recommend using a flea product as a precaution. They are inexpensive and very effective. If you have other cats in the home you will want to keep her away from them for 7-10 days to make sure that she has not carried home any upper respiratory viruses and like a human cold this can take some time to show up. The last thing to be concerned about are the "fatal viruses" At this point there is no way to prevent them or stop them so really you will just have to cross your fingers that she wasn't out long enough to pick up anything like FIV or FTLV....
If you want to take her for a blood work checkup your vet will be able to tell you if she picked up anything serious but you will have to wait 3 months to do the test as it will show nothing this early. Good question... thanks for writing! Teresa
