Revolution for worms?

15:39:23

Question
I just got a kitten, and she has worms and fleas. The fleas seem to be dead now because of the revolution, but she also has round worms. She is not litter trained yet, so she keep having diarrhea on the floor with the worms (EWW) so I have to clean it up. The worms are still alive when she poops them out. This morning I went in the quarantine room and she didn't poop all night, but there is 1/2 a worm hanging out of her anus. She has revolution 3 days ago. How long does it take for this stuff to work? Thanks.

Answer
Ashley,

I know what the web site says, but I am not sure I believe it.  If your kitten is still showing signs of round worm and (soon to be) tape worms, then maybe you need the Drontal.

Nowhere on the Revolution web site does it give you an estimate about how long it takes to work.  I find it interesting that most other independent web sites DO NOT cite Revolution for round worms, hook worms or tapeworms.

Ashley,

Revolution is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, scabies and heartworms. It works pretty quickly at killing the fleas (usually within 48 hours).  You are not supposed to have to fumigate the house when applying this product.

However, Revolution will not take care of round worms, hook worms or tape worms.  Another medication, called Drontal is used for those.  Although you may only be seeing round worms, if the kitten has had fleas, it will also have tape worm, so you need a medication that does both:

Drontal (praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate) is a broad spectrum dewormer for cats and kittens. It is used to treat tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms. Each tablet is scored for easy breakage. The dose is based on weight. (Sold per tablet).  See, for example,:
