sick after spayed

Question
I have a 9 month manx/mix who just got spayed while she was in heat.  When I got her home she made loud gurgle noises on every inhale.  To me it sounded like fluid was in her lungs. I called the vet and she said my cats throat was irritated from being intubated. She was very out of it and the gurgle sound changed to a wheeze/squeaky sound every inhale and exhale.  The next morning I took her back to the vet and she had a temperature and they only heard the sound coming from her throat, not her lungs. The vet gave her fluids and antibiotics. The next day (today), my cat is making more of a congested cough sound and her gurgles are not as loud. She has eaten a few bites of food, but no water. She is also hiding in the closet and under the couch. Our cat is usually so out-going and nothing phases her. I am really worried about her. Do you think something happened during the surgery that the vet is not telling me about?

Answer
Hi Michelle and thanks for asking on AllExperts.  Though I'm not a Vet, I don't believe your Vet would have any reason to not do their job or tell you if something was going on.  I would keep in touch with them and watch her carefully in case she caught an upper respiretory (sorry spelling ;-) infection, but the antibotics she is on now should help with this in only a few days - if she isn't getting better after being on the antibotics for more than 3 days, I would take her back in to have her lungs looked at again.

What a wonderful kitty mom you are, and I hope to hear that your girl is getting better soon!

Thanks and please let me know how those antibotics are working ok?
