I hear a clicking noise when my dog walks

Question
Several weeks ago, my dog (Cairn Terrier - age 6) came home limping.  After a couple of days, I took him to the vet who took xrays.  The xrays showed everything was normal -- did not show athritis either.  The vet suggested I wait a week and if it does not get better, to come back. After a week, he was not limping anymore.  However, occasionally when he walks, I hear a clicking noise.  Also, he will not go up steps any more and he seems to lay around more than he use to.  He is eating well.  He is not limping.

Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Susan!  I would definitely have him tested for Lyme's Disease. Limping, joint pain (associated with not going up the steps) and lethargy (laying around more) are all major symptoms of Lyme's Disease.  I would definitely ask your veterinarian to perform a test ASAP as Lyme's Disease needs to be treated promptly with a heavy duty antibiotic called Doxycycline.  Doxycycline is given 2 times per day for 28 days to kill the Lyme's Disease.  What you have described are classic symptoms.
I hope this helps,
Hilary
