Cat Query

Question
We only recently got 2 Himalayan cats, that were given to us.  They both seemed to have adusted to the move fairly well.  The older is female 6 years old.  To start with she was using her litter tray, but now she has started urinating anywhere she likes, especially on our daughter's dolls beds etc.  She has even done her business on the floor right next to her litter tray.  She also seems to be bleeding a little as she leaves a small amount of blood when she has been sitting.  We have also noticed some blood in her stools.  We are wondering if her urinating is more likely linked to a medical problem?

Answer
This sounds like more of a medical problem and you need to get her to the vet for an examination, urinalysis and appropriate medication.  Blood in the urine is not normal--she probably has a urinary tract infection and may even have bladder stones.

You should also have a stool sample checked to rule out any intestinal parasites.

To help deal with the stress side of things, I would recommend FELIWAY or Comfort Zone as well as adding a few drops of Rescue Remedy to the water dishes on a daily basis.

In addition, you should have 3 litter boxes that are scooped daily and washed with soap and water regulary.  You can also purchase Cat Attract litter to help encourage them to use the box www.preciouscat.com
