Question
Yesterday afternoon, my 10 year old beagle began trying to eat any and every plant she could reach, and of course soon after would vomit it up.  It was as if she were trying to get a bad taste out of her mouth.  Today, she ate part of a dieffenbachia plant.   Since she is right now resting comfortabley, I made an appointment with her regular vet; I would like to know what these are symptoms of.  Thank you.

Answer
Most plants will cause irritation of the mouth, nausea and vomiting.  Often times dogs will eat grass or plants if they don't feel well to make themselves throw up.  As far as I am aware that is the case with Diffenbachia, and there should not be any organ damage or subsequent problems with it's ingestion.  However, I would recommend having blood work done to make sure she is healthy.
