large buldge on dogs neck

Question
I have a two year old dudly lab with no history of health problems. at the begining of the week i noticed a large golf ball size buldge on his neck when i touched him, now the buldge is the size of a softball and noticeable from just looking at him. its on his neck, the right side.
he doesn't seem to be exhibiting any pain, when i touch the buldge.
there appears to be a cut or bite around it, but he doesn't have a fever.

does this seem like something that would go away on its own, like maybe just harmless swelling from something? it just came up so fast. my main concern is why it seems to be getting larger.

Answer
Without knowing which part of his neck this is on I cannot tell you what it even might be. What is a dudly lab?
Large lumps that come up suddenly can be many things: salivary duct blockages, abscesses from a bite or cut, fatty tumors and cysts. The last two don't appear overnight where as the others certainly seem to swell rather quickly.
If it growing quickly it is most likely an abscess from a bite or cut or even from a foreign body penetrating the skin.
It will probably rupture all over the place soon if that is the case, so you might want to get him into the vets right away.
