Dog losing hair.

Question
My English Bulldog is losing spots of hair, not large spots though. One spot looks kind of raw, like he has been scratching at it but these spots are in places he can't even reach. He is very well taken care of and we keep him clean. Is this normal for his breed? Could it possibly be the heat? Also, what can I do to keep it from continuing, and to treat what has already happened?

Answer
Tasha,

Hair loss is a symptom of several different diseases.  I doubt it is due to your care.  Dogs loose hair because of demodectic mange, sarcoptic mange, dermatophytosis, allergies, skin infections, endocrine diseases, GI diseases, etc....  The list goes on, and on, and on.....

Specifically, English Bulldogs are prone to allergies and demodectic mange but almost anything could be the cause.  I recommend taking your pet to a veterinarian so the condition can be diagnosed and treated.

Good luck to you.
