Chessie

Question
We have a 2yr Chessie, indoor dog. We are travelling to visit my family in UK in Nov-Dec so we have to board him. I am paraniod he's going to be cold, the gundog training/boarding facility has outside kennels in Utah. He went there last year and seems to like the owner/trainer but going to an outside 'room' seems so harsh. He isn't as stout as some Chessies. What are your thoughts, do you think his coat will grow quick enough to give him extra warmth? Last year I sent him with a cozy bed to put inside, he shredded it! They put straw inside, not sure how I feel about that.

Answer
Wendy,
there are a plethora of kennels out there. If your Chessie isn't as sturdy as other dogs then you need to have him boarded inside.
Ask for an inside kennel.
Straw is fine, keeps them warm. Better than a bed that they can choke on.
But it's your money- so reserve an inside kennel or go somewhere else. If he is a working gun dog, then he will be fine. Chessies like the cold, just like huskies, and when given the choice will often chose to sleep outside.

But again, it's your money- you decide what you want to pay for them tell them that. If you live in Utah now, his coat should be thick by Nov. Give him more time outside and it will grow!

Otherwise, they need to know he IS an indoor dog. Have fun in the UK!
