what can i get at the store for mites also can mites spread to other animals?

Hi Charlie!  It depends on the species that has the mites.  If it is a hamster, guinea pig or bird, there are many remedies in the pet stores that you can choose from.  It will have the species name on it.  If this is a cat or a dog, there are many shampoos that are being sold out on the market to rid a pet of mites, although some of these shampoos are known to cause a harmful allergic reaction in cats and dogs.  If this is a cat or dog, your best bet would be to have your veterinarian medicate them for this problem.  
Mites are, in fact, highly contagious to other animals, as they are parasites and will attach themselves to anything in which they can feed from.  Eliminating direct contact of your mite infested pet (until the mites are gone) and your healthy pets would prove to be beneficial.  With medication, mites tend to go away within a 4-7 day period.
Humans, however, can not contract mites from an animal.
