Question
I have a 14 yr. old male Westie, Mac, and he has recently started pooping in his sleep (I have found it under his tail) and he can just be walking through the house and turds just drop out.  It also happens when he gets excited, someone walks by and he barks, etc.  I did recently get a new pup; however, the problem existed before then just not as bad.  I do notice at night when he's in bed with me his back legs shake or tremor but I don't see any pooping until the next morning.  Do you have any idea what's going on?  I keep telling my husband that Mac's 98 in dog yrs. and he probably thinks he's just farting...I'm beginning to get concerned after some of the things I've read on-line.

Answer
Hi Gail:  This is not serious.  He is getting "OLD" and his spincter muscles are giving out in his anus.  Also, his anal sac may be full and causing him some pressure.
You may want to have the vet check this out.

As for nutriton and supplements  that can help:
Make sure he is on a quality food like Innova Evo, Wellness Formula, Solid Gold or Natural Balance.... The good holistic foods require that you feed him less.  They are more concentrated and he will poop less and smaller, too.

NuVET Plus is a great Supplement to aid in digestive problems...
