Frontline for Cats on my Dog?

18 14:49:20

Question
My dog broke out with fleas yesterday and is miserable.  I normally have Revolution on hand, but found that all I had available was the cat variety.  We're in the process of moving and am 3 hours away from my vet.  Can I use the cat medication on her?  She is a 3-year-old Papillon weighing 10 lbs.

Answer
The doses for cats is much less then for dogs. It may work, may not. You can always get a bottle of Ovitrol spray at the pet or a feed store and use that on a rag on her. That will kill the adults plus render the eggs and larvae unable to molt and turn into adults.

Frontline only kills the adults, you need an IGR, insect growth regulator, to kill the worst part of the fleas, which are the eggs and larvae. The cocoons they spin cannot be killed but once the adults hatch from them the adulticides will kill them. I use Sentinel for heartworm and flea control and my pets are flea and heartworm free for the last 13 yrs.
