Is my Guinea Pig Pregnant?

18 15:58:41

Question
I just brought home a new piggie companion for my existing piggie. They are both female. One is shorthaired and the new piggie is longhaired. I'm suspecting that my new piggie might be pregnant. She won't let me pick her up, she makes low vibrating sounds around my other piggie, and her belly is soft and large. I tried to gently feel around her belly and see if there is anything different, but I cant't quite tell how large she really is because she's got all that hair. Are there any pregnancy signs that I should be aware of and looking out for, should I seperate the two piggies? I hope you can help me!

Answer
Hi Maria!  It would be best to have your veterinarian check your new guinea pig for pregnancy, as she will need extra vitamins and supplements if she is pregnant.  When the time comes closer for her to deliver, she will lay alot, pant from time to time, and drink alot.  When these symptoms show, this would be the time where it would be a good idea to seperate the two pigs.
I hope this helps!
