Cat Seizures?

18 14:09:05

Question
My cat will be sitting calmly, and suddenly she will get somewhat of a wild look in her eyes, and then she will take of running. She won't get very far, as she will fall, and then start flopping on the floor like a fish out of water. She appears to have no control over her limbs. The episode will only last 5-10 seconds, and then she is fine. The episodes occur infrequently, seem to be more prevalent in the morning. Do these sound like seizures? If so, how can we treat? She is approaching her 20th birthday. Thank you.

Answer
Bob,
A twenty year old cat having seizures like this is not a good thing at all. She needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. It's really possible that she has a brain tumor or is becoming toxic from her kidneys going downhill. They can have seizures from azotemic poisoning from their kidneys not working at full capacity anymore.

A build up of ammonia in her blood stream from her liver not working right will also cause this.

In any case she needs to be seen by the vet right away. I pray that it's not something bad but at her age it's hard to say how bad we are talking about.

Please get her in right away to be seen.
