Cat diagnosed with adeno-carcinoma

Question
Hi,
My cat was recently, last week, diagnosed with adeno-carcinoma.  He was definitively diagnosed by a biopsy from 3 places, 2 lymph nodes which drain the intestines and one from the omentum.  They say that there were masses on the liver as well.  They decided not to do a resection of the intestine because the cancer was preent in small pieces all throughout the colon.  Also, the main mass was too close to the anus.  So, we are treating only with steroids (Dexamethasone 0.75 mg) 1x day. And an injection of 100 ml of lactated ringer's with Baytril also 1 x day.   Is there anything else, alternatively or whatever I can do?  Egg is a 17 year old tabby, but really strong.  His blood work was all normal.  He is a survivor/fighter.  Right now he is doing well, although is skinny.  He has regained his appetite after surgery and eats pretty normal amounts but in more spread out doses.  Also, we've changed his diet to softer lower fat foods.  There is a small presence of blood in his stool.  I know there is probably nothing to do now but keep him comfortable until it's time to say goodbye, but i thought I'd just ask.  He is a dear friend and I will miss him terribly.  I would hate to think i hadn't done what he needed me to do.
Thanks,
nina

Answer
Transfer Factor Plus (www.my4life.com/drfry) would definitely be something to consider as this is very good immune support and has been known to help cancer patients.  It comes in a powder for cats (TF Feline Complete), but it may be easier to pop the human capsule into him.

Also, a natural diet would be best and adding some raw meat in as well.  Stay away from food with food dyes, meat by-products and preservatives.

Fatty acid supplements are important in cancer patients as well as digestive enzymes and pre- and pro-biotics.  I would also suggest some liver support such as milk thistle.  You can find these things at a health food store.  Standard Process does make a Veterinary line of products and their Feline Enteric Support and Feline Liver Support would be beneficial to him.

Best wishes,
