Question
My 8 yr old min pin has some "congestion" in one eye that the eye specialist believes may be due to a "mass" in the orbit.  I really don't want to undergo the expense of an MRI to diagnose this, pay for surgery, and still find out that it's malignant.  The dog has been riddled with problems, notably having a bladder full of polyps at the age of 2 and needing surgery for that.  The diagnosis then was "unspecified" inflammation.  I'm thinking more of this "unspecified" inflammation is going on in the eye orbit and would like to try some anti-inflammatory non-steroidal methods to see if the alleged mass can be reduced.

Answer
Hi Debra, I am so sorry your Min Pin has had so many health problems.
The vet can place your baby on steroids to reduce the inflammation.
I know you mentioned you want something natural for this unspecified swelling.
Here are some options other than the steroid treatments.

1.  Turmeric - this is a herb that helps to reduce swelling, pain, and inflammation.
You buy this in the cooking section in the herbs and seasonings.  All you need is a dash, 2 x per day, mix well into the dog food. This is very strong and you only need a dash or a pinch mixed into the food.  ( PLUS - your dog is small)
Again, this is an all natural season found in the grocery store.

2.  Next, NuVET Plus - powder supplement - they make a wafer and a powder :
Please give 1/2 a teaspoon of the NuVET Plus powder in the am and pm.  ( 1/2 teaspoon at one time - mixed into some WET canned dog food or low fat cottage cheese)
NuVET also helps to reduce inflammation and helps the healing process, too.
