Question
I am about to move from hawaii to chile with a view to living in chile permanently. What are the requirement for travelling with a cat into chile? As I understand it is not necessary to hace th ecat microchipped unless we would be returning to the us...am I correct in this..many thanks

Answer
Dear Anthony
If you are in Hawaii, you ARE in the USA !!  I think you mean
returning to mainland USA....  Microchips are NOT required for travel
to/from USA (except to Hawaii)  Microchips are highly recommended
To Chile. Contact ipata member:  www.interfamily.cl  in Santiago
My info indicates need for health cert issued within 10 days.  Also
says rabies vac not needed if coming from rabies free area, which you
will be doing.  However, in any case, highly recommend your cat have
a rabies vac at least 30 days old.  You do NOT want to take any risk...
What is your travel routing?  Highly recommend you take cat as excess
baggage if possible.  MUCH cheaper and would clear customs with you.
You can get this info from the passenger reservation people at the
airline....
Hope this helps.  Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Avoid using 3rd party pet shippers as your costs will skyrocket.
No need for you to do this...
