Moving to USA with our dogs

Question
Hi, My husband and I are planning to move from Australia to California, by the end of 2009. I know this is a bit far away but by the time we know it, it's moving time.  We have two little dogs that are moving with us, it's not as simple as getting a rabies vaccination and off you go, is there any thing else we should know before we purchase our air fares. We are looking at having them fly with us, but not in the cabin with us. Will they need to be sedated and is it safe? Will there be an excessive amount to pay extra for them? Who can I contact for more information on pet travel..
Regards,
Marie

Answer
Hi Marie,

Thanks for your inquiry!  The only requirements for importing a pet into the US are:

Health certificate within 10 days of flight
Current rabies vaccination

They will ask for this when you are clearing through customs.
