Question
Hi--
I noticed this morning that there were tiny "bugs" crawling around in the bottom of the tank, in and around the gravel.They are opaque white and have the shape of an oblong ladybug that has just landed, wings partially out. I think they may be of the gammara species, but I'm not sure. I have recently changed the fish food type, but I am not sure if this is related.Could you please tell me what they are and what I should do, if anything, to remedy the situation?
Thank you--K.

Answer
Hi Kirsten;

They are probably just a typical everyday water critter. I wouldn't worry about them unless they actually get on your fish. They could come from foods I guess, but most likely were airborne or came in with something natural like a plant, gravel, or even pooped out from a fish. Eggs and larvae of many creatures are carried by other animals with no ill effect to the carrier.

Usually fish like to eat them. Do your fish seem interested?

Followups welcome
