Anyway to deal with bioload?

Question
Is  there anyway that I can keep say 1 1/2in of fish to a gal? I know the regular rule of thumb is 1 in to a gal. Im wondering if you get better filtration, keep the tank O2 rich , if you can add a fish or two over the limit.

Answer
Hello,

Actually, I would usually recommend understocking as opposed to overstocking. With over stocking comes more issues then filtration and oxygen. Fish need their own terroritory, or they may become aggresive and begin to compete for the limited space. Also, more fish equals more waste which equals higher levels of ammonia and nitrites. If you can resist, I recommend not exceeding 1 inch per gallon, and sometimes even that rule can cause overstocking, depending also on the height of your fish.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
