worms, after I cleaned filter??

Question
okay i been searching for a pic or something, I dont have a cam myself- I'm running a 50 gal tank with a Fluval 305 with the spray  output attatched to a tube with a few holes in it, my question is, today I stopped the filter and changed  the carbon and such, I found tons of snails inside, after cleaning them out ( fear of damage to the pump)  I connected everything and primed the can, when the pump started a flush of debre came out ( it was early morning and i forgot to clean intake/output hoses =\)  after a few minutes of testing water and such, I noticed Very very small lil white worms on the side of my tank, actually enough so that you could easily pick them out, but they weren't even a mil-meter long, at first I thought it was debre but after watching them I realized there moving against the current.  i've begun cleaning the tank again, after, my blunder  with the horses, but, should I be worried? are my fish in severe danger? its a freshwater comunity tank witha few gouramis 2 skunk loaches and a highfin pleco,
is it possible that these lil white things aresnail babies? the  can filter was covered in egg sacks

thanks again

Answer
Hi Paul;

It sounds like a type of planaria. They are a totally harmless to your fish. They are however, a sign of overfeeding. Their population goes crazy feeding on excess waste. The snails do the same thing.

Cut back on feeding and keep the gravel clean and they will eventually die back. Here is an article about them;
