fish medication

Question
what do you think about medication that is feed to fish instead of treating the tank water.

Answer
Hi Sandra,
There are some really good medicated fish foods. They are designed to work really well on internal bacterial infections. They do work but sometimes it is hard to get sick fish to eat the food. If they refuse to eat it then you always have to resort to adding the appropriate medication to the tank water to try to treat them. Of course you always want to try to avoid having to use medication as much as possible by keeping them healthy since, just as in humans, if too much antibiotic medication is used too frequently you run the risk of the bacteria becoming resistant to the medication.
Hope this has helped,
Karen
