feeding fish...

Question
Hi. I suddenly am "babysitting" my neighbor's kid's fish while they are away for 3 weeks! I wasn't left instuctions for the fish (am also feeding the cats..which is easy). I have never had fish in my life. Anyway, the fish are freshwater and are probably zebras according to a friend.  small, thin, gray fish? Maybe 5 or 6 of them in the small aquarium. So..I have a bottle of TeraMin tropical granules and there is also a jar of flakes.  How often do they need to be fed, which do I use, how much?  I know..they should have left instructions...but they aren't mean...just a very quick wonderful chance to pack up and go across country..  They showed me but didn't write it down. I fed them a pinch of flakes this morning.  Didn't feed them the granuels yet.  I don't want to over feed or under feed.  Please help!

Answer
Hi Cate;

It's really pretty easy. Feed them once a day. Feed just enough for the fish to completely consume from all areas of the tank in less than 5 minutes. You can alternate the foods for variety. Granules one day, flakes the next. Even if the owners fed them twice a day it will not harm them at all to eat only once per day. Make sure there is no leftover food anywhere. If there is, it will have to be siphoned out.
