fish lice

I just read this post on fish lice. I am a fish hobbyist. This is the first time I am experiencing this fish lice. I have fancy guppies, swordtails, and Mollys all with this "lice" I thought at 1st this was a growth. I have started to lose fish and other fish are now carrying the lice. What a mess.. I have 2 tanks of fish with aprox. 6 of the lice in one tank and 1 in the 2nd tank attached to fish. Can you tell me the safest way to treat this problem?

Hi Jill: I would treat them with any copper based parasite medication you have available to you at your local pet store.... Copper is usually the only reliable med to kill off fish lice... You may also use FLUKES TABS if you have those available too.  Guppies, etc are pretty hardy... so they should withstand the medication... dave
