I have not had guppys before, and i have noticed i have a guppy fry. its been there 2 weeks that i know of now.Do i need to move it into another tank to grow? or will moving it kill it? Also can i clean out my tank or will that kill my fry too?

Answer -
Hello!

Unfortunatly, it is best to move the pregnant guppy to a seperate tank, let her have her babies there, then move her back. Fish fry are almost impossible to catch. The good news is I have successfully raised hundreds of brichardis and electric blues in the same tank as their parents.

If you can catch the fry, then the best thing to put it in would be either a floating fry net (can easily be purchased at most fish supply stores) or another tank with simple decoration and filtration. A sponge filter would work well. Make sure it is heated.

If you would like to leave him in the tank, simply be extra careful while you clean and make sure you are feeding him fry food in small portions several times daily. Fry food is usually in powder or liquid form, so it is easy for them to eat.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more assistance raising your new baby!

Good-luck,

Hello!

If you wanted to catch your fry, instead of taking out all the fish, just try taking out all the decoration, catching it, putting it in its new home then cleaning your tank and putting all the decorations back. However, remember that the stress of the chase may be to much for it or your other fish. So its up to you whether you would like to take that risk. Fry are very fast and very good at hiding. Sometimes taking out all the decoration stirs up dirt that further blocks your view of the fry. Also make sure you have a delicate net if possible.
