Question
Hello Karen,

I am hoping you may be able to help me with my dilemma that I have come across,  I have a pregnant Guppy who is very heavily pregnant, I woke this morning to find that she has unfortunatly passed away.

Here's my problem.......I can still see the babies moving inside her and need to know if there is anything I can do to save them, we have sucessfully in the past raised baby guppies and would like to do the same for these.

Any ideas wopuld be greatly appreciated,

Kind Regards

Philippa.

Answer
Dear Philippa,
Wow! I've never gotten such a question like this!

Since the little mother guppy perished(I'm sorry about that) and you want to save the babies, I've never had to attempt this before but I would probably try taking the mother's body and some shallow tank water in a bowl as like your operating area. With a razor blade or a very fine and very sharp knife, carefully run it along her belly to try to slit it open, try not to go in deep or anything. If the mother guppy is open the babies may get out of her just fine. If not, you could try carefully moving the mother guppy's body back and forth to try and loosen them. I can't really say the real outcome of this 'operation' because we never know what may happen or if it will even work. But it's certainly worth a try.

I hope to get this to you as soon as possible so I'm going to cut this short. Feel free to get back to me on if the 'operation' was sucessful or if you have anymore questions.

Best of luck!
Karen~
