black moor SICK!!!

Question
I am new to the whole fish thing, and I have a black moor and he is not doing so well lately. I had him in a 30 gallon tank but have recently taken him out to treat him. First I thought he had fungus, so I treated him in the tank with PimaFix and well it seemed to work, I did the water changes and not too long after seemed to come back only this time I noticed all his fins and tail are just like long shreds, have cottony fungus spots on them and seems to have some red areas on his underside, and now has not eaten in 3 days. So I have moved him to a separate bowl and have been treating him with Maracyn, and Coppersafe and just placing a couple flakes of food in to see if he will eat, but sadly nothing :( I change the water twice daily and replace treatments, and aquasafe. I have also been doing daily water changes in the 30 gallon tank as well to bring water quality up. I am pretty much covering all diseases with the meds I'm using how come it seems nothing is working? Will he start to eat something again? I feel so bad for him.

Answer
Hi Jaime,
It sounds like your tank isn't cycled. Test your water to see if the water quality is okay. All of these problems are caused by poor water quality or an uncycled tank. To cycle your tank you must do daily water changes and testing of the water. The ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels should be within acceptable ranges when the tank is fully cycled.

Chloe.
