Question
after 3 mos my baby now have fungus all over them what should i treat them with,they are doping fast thanks cathy.

Answer
Hi Cathy;

You didn't give me much to go on here but the first thing I would suggest is make a water change. Replace 25% of the tank water. Use a water conditioner and make sure the new water is the same temp as the old water so they aren't stressed by it. Fresh clean water can boost the immune system so they can fight off disease.

In order to really effectively help, I need to know what the fungus areas look like, (whitish, brownish, cottony, spiky, etc.), what kind of eels they are and how big, size of the tank, water temperature, filtration, what other fish live with them, etc.

I can offer a suggestion for medication, but without all the details I don't know if it will help. There are medications that treat fungal and bacterial infections at the same time. I say this because many bacterial infections look like fungus. Anything with Furazolidone and Nitrofurazone is good. Jungle brand "Fungus Eliminator" has those and is safe for eels. Aquarium salt is very helpful as well as Melafix too. Salt and melafix will not cure it though. They are support products that help heal and soothe the raw areas as the medicine works. Water change is essential though.

Antibiotics (tetracycline, erythromycin) are usually safe too, but without knowing what infection they have I would stick with the others I mentioned above.

What NOT to use;
Definately avoid copper, avoid any organic dyes such as Malachite green, Victoria green and Methylene blue when you have eels.

I hope they get well very soon....
