Question
I started a aquarium on April 5.  I let it run for 24 hours to make sure everything runs correct. No problems there.  I have a bio-wheel filter system. air stone, therometer, heater, gravel and ornaments made for the aquarium. Its a 10 gallon tank so i added 1 tbsp for every 5 gallons. Added aqua safe and let it run 24 hours.  Added 2 tiger barbs and 1 corey catfish..
i've been testing the water.  quick dip 5 strips.  i really don't know much at this point because i very new at this. The tests haven't shown nitites yet.  But I see a slight color change in nitrate.  From what i've read this is not right.never seen a nitrite reading at all.only nitrate..
and also purchased tank buddies ph stablizer.  Do i need to use these 1st a month, every week? any info would me.  I haven't used them in there yet.

Answer
Hello,

The first thing that should show high levels in your aquarium is ammonia. Then nitrites will raise, then nitrates. Try checking your ammonia and seeing if that is starting to get high.

As for your pH stabilizer, I am not sure how often you use it. It varies from product to product, and I have not tried this product in particular. I recommend reading the instructions of the product. If that doesn't give you an answer, you may want to contact the manufacturer or distributor of the product.

I hope this helps.

Stephanie
