Question
We have 3 beautiful parrot fishes in our freshwater tank just recently we changed the water. 3 days ago. one of the parrot fish is losing his beautiful orange color. what can we do ???? any help is appreciative to save our buddy. thank you

Answer
Diane,

Well, no worries on losing the fish, i think he is just fine. When it comes to those fish, they are dyed the color at the breeders. They are placed in acid to strip the outer layer, than they are dipped in the dye. Or they are fed certain food to keep that color. If the same food isn't fed to the fish when it is sold, it will fade. Sometimes they fade with age, and sometimes if there are more than one male, one will fade to show submission to the other male. You will also find that they can even change colors their whole life. As long as your fish is still eating well, swimming well, and looking happy, then all is good. When you change the water, don't forget to condition it and make sure the new water is the same temperature as the water in the tank. You don't have to change the water completely, just do water changes. I would do 20% water changes every week.

I hope that this helps, and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
