Question
I need to know if neon tetras are easy to take care of. Will they thrive in med. hard water?  What are the stocking levels for a 36 x 12 x 24 aquarium.  I just want neons with about 4 cory catfish.

Thank you

Katie

Answer
Yes, neons are great fish and super easy to care for. It would be beautiful to have a school of them in a tank alone with corys, which are also awesome fish. They arnt too picky about water conditions as long as there is no ammonia and it is well cared for, just basic fishkeeping. The stocking for any tank depends on what you stock it with. Many say stuff like one inch of fish per gallon but I dont agree, it depends on the fish and size of each fish and the individual fishes requirements. Based on your measurements, I am guessing you tank is around a 20 or 30 gallon? I am completely guessing. Assuming it is a 20-30 gal, you can have a ton of neons. Ok, so maybe not a ton but alot. However, you should probably not put more than 15-20 neons in the tank. This will keep the tank clean and let you be able to manage waste and better care for it. It is never a good idea to completely stuff a tank, even if the fish fit. However, the 15-20 neons is based on a 20-30 gal tank with only corys as tank mates. If there will be other conditons let me know and I will revise my recommendations. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more help.
